Privacy Policy

Effective 21 October 2026

The short version

  • Your Keepers, sessions, intentions and stats are stored on your phone (and in your own Android backup, if you have it on).
  • An account is optional. Sign in with Google only if you want Friends and a cloud backup.
  • We collect anonymous usage numbers and crash reports to fix bugs. You can switch the usage numbers off.
  • No ads. No advertising ID. We never sell or rent your data.
  • Cleaven never reads your screen or sees which other apps you use.
  • You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or from this website.

01Who we are

Cleaven is a focus app for Android, made by an independent developer based in India ("Cleaven", "we", "us"). This policy covers the Cleaven app and the website at cleaven.app. If you have a question about your data, write to cleaven.app@gmail.com.

02What stays on your phone

Cleaven works fully without an account. Everything below is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage:

We cannot see this data. Uninstalling Cleaven, or clearing its storage, deletes it from the phone.

Android's own backup

If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android copies this progress file to your own Google account, the same way it backs up your other apps, so a new phone or a reinstall can pick up where you left off. That backup is held by Google for you; we can't see it. It never includes sign-in details, so after restoring you'll sign in again to use Friends. You control it in your phone's settings, under Google → Backup.

03The optional account

If you choose to use Friends, Cleaven asks you to sign in with Google. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. Google shares with us your Google account's name, email address, profile photo address and a unique account ID. We use these to identify your account. Your email address is never shown to your friends.

While you are signed in, Cleaven stores the following in Cloud Firestore, Google's database service:

DataWhat it containsWho can see it
ProfileYour friend code, display name (the name you set in Cleaven, or your Google first name if you haven't set one), the title you wear, your picture and frame choice, your privacy setting, your current character and stage, streak, minutes of focus this week, how many pieces and achievements you have, and when it last updated.Only people you have accepted as friends. With your profile set to "Only you", friends see just your picture, name and title.
FriendsThe list of people you have added, and friend requests you've sent or received (including the sender's name and code). You, and the other person in each connection.
BackupA copy of the app data on your phone (section 02, including session history and intentions), so you can restore it on a new phone.Only you, when signed in to your account.

Signing out stops syncing. Your phone keeps its own copy of your data.

04Usage analytics and crash reports

Usage analytics (you can turn this off)

To learn which parts of Cleaven help people focus, the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase. It records events such as a session completed and how long it ran, a stage reached, a character or piece unlocked, a mission collected, a store page opened, a friend added, or something shared. It also records basic device information (phone model, Android version, language, app version), an approximate country derived from your IP address, and a random identifier for this installation of the app.

These numbers never include your name, your email, your intentions or anything you type. We do not collect the advertising ID, and we do not link analytics to your account. You can switch usage analytics off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage.

Crash reports

When Cleaven crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a crash report: the technical details of the error, the app version, the phone model and Android version, the state of the device at the time (for example free memory and orientation), and a random identifier for this installation. Crash reports are how we find and fix bugs, so they stay on even when usage analytics is off.

05Permissions, and what Cleaven doesn't do

Cleaven does not use accessibility services or usage access, and it never reads your screen, your notifications, or which apps you open. During a session it only knows whether Cleaven itself was left, and whether the screen was locked. It does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone or files.

06Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not use it for advertising. There are no ads in Cleaven.

Data is processed by Google, which provides Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics and Crashlytics) on our behalf. Google may process it on servers outside India. You can read how Google handles this data in the Firebase privacy information and Google's Privacy Policy.

When you tap Share, Cleaven creates an image or video on your phone and hands it to the app you pick. Nothing is shared unless you tap Share.

We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of users.

07Purchases

Cleaven Plus and gem packs are not on sale yet. When they are, payments will be handled entirely by Google Play. We will receive confirmation of what you bought (an order ID, the product and its status) so the app can unlock it. We never see your card or payment details.

08How long we keep data

09Your choices and rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and similar laws where you live, you can ask to access, correct or erase your personal data, withdraw consent, and raise a grievance. In practice:

10Security

Data sent between the app and Google's servers is encrypted in transit. Database rules make sure each account can only read what it is allowed to: your own data, and the profiles of your accepted friends. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect small so there is little to lose.

11Children

Cleaven is meant for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. If you are under 18, please use the optional account features only with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

12Changes to this policy

If we change what Cleaven collects, we'll update this page and its effective date first. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.

13Contact

Questions, requests or complaints about privacy: cleaven.app@gmail.com. This address also serves as our grievance contact.
